Using a Windows computer to play SNIS
I have successfully tested SNIS on a Windows machine. That being said there is not (yet) a Windows port. I was able to run it using Xming and PuTTY (SSH) to play the snis_limited_client remotely from a Linux machine. The normal snis_client had significantly lag on helm and other screens. I'm sure this had to do with trying to run OpenGL over SSH on an unaccelerated X session.
It's still best to run Space Nerds In Space natively on Linux, but, if for some reason you can't, there is a way to play on Windows via another Linux computer.

The limited client's days are probably numbered. Not to say Raspberry Pi won't survive, but it will require opengl ES stuff. The 3d graphics have kind of creeped into screens other than MAIN, like, NAV and SCIENCE, and the frame rate on the limited client is, well, not good.

Will try to run it on my Win10 Compute stick to see how it runs.
* To run it I used Bash on Ubuntu on Windows with the VcXsrv Xorg server. Basically it uses Linux to run SNIS on top of Windows without a Virtual Machine. It's not a native Windows program, but, might help some people run the game without Dual Booting or running pure Linux.
We won't be able to run it this way on Windows 8.x and older. Just Win10.
