Problem running SNIS
Hi all, I'd love to give SNIS a try but I'm struggling to get it to run. I have dedicated a laptop with a clean Mint 17.3 install and have followed the instructions on the website. ./quickstart seems to generate some activity buy eventually drops back into the console. I note several Error GLSL 1.3 not supported entries.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, Chris

That's the problem. Your laptop doesn't support GLSL 1.3.
If you run snis_launcher instead of quickstart, then
launch the lobby, multiverse, snis_server, and the limited client, (1, 2, 3 and 5) you might have better luck, because the limited client doesn't use OpenGL at all.
However the limited client is not good for MAIN SCREEN, WEAPONS, NAV or DEMON screens. It's OK for ENGINEERING, DAMAGE CONTROL, SCIENCE, and COMMS.
This is mentioned on the website in the troubleshooting section: https://smcameron.github.io/space-nerds-in-space/#openglversion
Which I may be able to revert that tomorrow and maybe make it work with opengl 2.1. (I would have thought 10 years would be enough for opengl 3.0 to have widespread adoption by now... guess not.) I'll give it a try, but not before tomorrow.
Whoops, which solar system?

Edit: 2.1, not 2.0. I forgot to use the magic version decoder ring: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenGL_Shading_Language#Versions
So I have to thank you too for that update!
